The Lunch Poacher

“Gryphon’s been a good dog lately,” said Amber, “We should have him try a new type of kibble as a treat.”

The next morning Gryphon noticed that his regular kibble was gone. Instead, there were these weird squiggly thingies. Hmm, thought Gryphon, This doesn’t look very appetizing. So he just left it there.

When Amber told Dave that Gryphon hadn’t eaten his breakfast, Dave was shocked. “Did he even try it?” said Dave.

“No,” replied Amber, “he just left it there and walked away.”

“Hmmm,” said Dave.

At dinner, Dave tried to make Gryphon eat his food. “Come on, buddy,” said Dave, “Eat your new kibble. We bought it especially for you.” Gryphon still didn’t eat it.

When Amber and Dave were both asleep, Gryphon walked into the kitchen…

“Hmm,” said Amber the next day. It was lunch time and Amber couldn’t find half of her pepperoni pizza.

“Uuuuurp!” said Gryphon.

That night when Amber and Dave were sleeping, Gryphon skillfully sneaked out of bed and went into the kitchen…

The next day, Dave was missing his leftover pork chop that he had saved for lunch. To console himself, he went over to pat Gryphon. “Uuuurp!” said Gryphon.

“That’s funny,” said Dave, “I thought we already brushed your teeth this morning.” Gryphon had to brush his teeth again.

Amber and Dave went downstairs to discuss what was happening. Then, when Gryphon was taking his nap, Amber and Dave fixed a camera in the kitchen and Amber stuck a camera in the refrigerator. That night, Gryphon went on his nightly trip to the kitchen…

In the morning, Amber and Dave found evidence of lunch poaching. “Bad dog!” said Amber. “No more new kibble for you!”

Yes! Thought Gryphon.

Mouse and Puppy

I'd like some company, thought Puppy. I know, I should ask Mouse for a sleepover. He went over to the phone and called her. "Hello, do you want to come over to my house for a sleepover?" Puppy asked, shyly. He hoped that Mouse would say yes.

Mouse said, "Just let me check something." She scurried over to her calendar. She checked it. This is going to be so awesome! thought Mouse. This was the third day of Spring Break, and Mouse didn't have any vacations planned. "I'm free all break," Mouse happily replied.

"Great," said Puppy, and hung up. Puppy was pretty excited. He had never hosted his own sleepover before. He would have to go to the store; he didn't have any cheese. Wait! Puppy realized something. He hadn't told Mouse when the sleepover was going to be scheduled!

Confused, Mouse dug out her sleeping bag from the attic and then got out her stuffed bunny. Then, she got our her P.J.s and a change of clothes. Mouse put all this stuff in her backpack. Oops! She forgot her toothbrush! She got it, and set off to Puppy's house.

Puppy heard a knock on his door. Who could it be? Puppy opened it and saw Mouse. What was Mouse doing here? Then he realized that he hadn't told her when to come over. She must have thought it was today. "I'm sorry, but the sleepover isn't until Friday," said Puppy.

Oops! Mouse was very embarrassed. But then, Puppy invited her for a play date, right then! Mouse squealed and ran in. They played the afternoon away. When it was time to go, Mouse picked up her heavy backpack. But before she could leave, Puppy reminded her that the sleepover was on Friday. "I'll remember," said Mouse.

It was Friday.

Puppy waited and waited for Mouse. He was all prepared. He had a space for Mouse to sleep, some games for Mouse to play with him, and extra cheese in his refrigerator. Mouse would be here at 7:05. It was 7:04. Tick, tick, tick, tick, tock! It was 7:05. Ding dong. Mouse was here!

When Mouse entered the dog house, she was amazed at what she saw. There were her favorite games, lots of her favorite food in the refrigerator, and a cozy spot to sleep. "Oh, thank you, Puppy!" she squeaked. "I know for a fact that this sleepover is going to be terrific!"

A Surprise for Squirrel

Growl, went Squirrel's tummy. When would he get another acorn? It had just turned spring, and Squirrel had ran out of acorns.

I've got it! thought Squirrel, I'll ask Chipmunk for some acorns. Squirrel hopped out of his hole and scurried down the tree. I know Chipmunk is generous enough to give me at least 5 acorns. But when he got to Chipmunk's den, and asked for some acorns, he realized that Chipmunk didn't have any. All he had were peanuts. (Squirrel was NOT a personal fan of peanuts.)

Squirrel ran down to Mouse's burrow, wishing for some acorns. But when he got there and asked for some acorns, all Mouse had was cheese. "I thought you had acorns," exclaimed Squirrel.

"Acorns are out of season right now," replied mouse. "Our diet for springtime is cheese."

"Uuuuugh," said Squirrel, and slapped his paw to his forehead. He ran out of Mouse's burrow.

Then he saw it. An acorn! "Kaw!" shrieked a crow, as he picked it up and flew off.

"Oh, you crow! You wicked, wicked crow!" shouted Squirrel.

He went back up to his hole in the tree and sat down. Squirrel hadn't noticed this, but his calendar said April 1st. Squirrel snuggled up in his bed and fell asleep, with his tummy grumbling.

"Surprise!" he heard when Squirrel woke up. There were his friends Mouse and Chipmunk with sacks full of acorns. Chipmunk pointed at Squirrel's calendar. "Wow," said Squirrel, "you really fooled me."
